When we were contacted about the new Model 2 ribbon microphone I must admit, loving it as much as our favorite ribbon mics was not what I expected as we waited for it to arrive. Once it hit us though and we were able to use on acoustic and electric guitar, as well as drums, I knew that the efforts Deni put into the design had paid off. The Model 2 is a unique mic, and stands side by side with anything in its price range...and stands out in a crowded ribbon mic market.

There is a resonator plate incorporated into the design which retains presence and air frequencies in the mic, while of course still sounding like a smooth ribbon. The transient response is very snappy, bringing a crisp image and not quite the rounded and dark sound of many classic ribbon mics. It uses a very expensive USA made Samar transformer as well, and the build quality and parts list is top notch. You can tell the goal was a great mic, not to cut costs. I also really dig the pencil mic look of it.

The sound is a very wide bandwidth, all the way out to the tippy top air frequencies. I don't mean it's a bright mic, it's more like the air it delivers is the SPACE around things if that makes sense. The 3D sound doesn't just smack you in the face, it's a subtle and natural effect that when compared to many ribbons, means it sounds like you are standing there with the instrument and experiencing the room as well as the direct source. Its balanced response is easy to hear, even the bottom end behaves nicely without the thump and woof of many older designs. That lack of woof also means for close work on guitar cabs, it's ready to go and you can hit it with high SPL no problem...no mud.

For a detailed yet smooth sound that accurately represents its surroundings from delicate to balls out rockin, and brings presence unlike most ribbon mics, grab a Mesanovic Model 2 now!
