The Royer Labs R-12 is a premium active ribbon microphone that continues the legacy of Royer’s legendary R-121 with added active electronics for higher output and greater flexibility. Featuring the same high-tension 2.5-micron ribbon element, it delivers the signature warm, natural, and highly detailed Royer sound with improved signal-to-noise performance and the convenience of 48V phantom power. Ideal for electric and acoustic guitars, brass, drum overheads, vocals, pianos, organs, and percussion, the R-12 excels in both studio and live applications with smooth highs, rich mids, and tight low-end response.

Active Ribbon Performance

The built-in active electronics significantly boost output level while maintaining the classic ribbon character. A switchable -15 dB pad and high-pass filter (100 Hz) provide extra headroom for loud sources and control proximity effect, while the internal shock mount and triple-layer windscreen protect the ribbon and reduce handling/plosive noise.
