ZenPro Converter Test, Truth Without The Possibility of Hype

Posted by Warren Dent on Jun 25, 2014

Have you checked out our ZenPro Audio Digital Converter Test?

This is one of the most elaborate tests we've ever performed, and it was planned, geared up (had to buy a DSD recorder) and executed over a period of many weeks to capture and build these sessions.

I know it's our test, but I feel it's the only fair and repeatable converter test on earth for multiple reasons.

"Loopback" tests are not real world (running the same track DA to AD many many times to hear accumulated differences) and many times people are comparing tests on the internet with each other and assuming there are no other factors involved. The sad news is that any change in each rig from around the world (DAW software and how it renders, recording levels, cables used and even length of cables used) can skew such a piled on experience being added up. You can no longer say that the only thing changing in the test is the hardware converter. On top of that, most projects touch your converter once or twice before mixdown so we're not interested in how the 100th pass might hold up.

Our test (for USA customers seeking out converters to purchase at ZenPro Audio) is always the same all the way down to the same piece of cable, the same DAW install and purpose built session on our recording computer, to the same electrical outlet the converter is plugged in to. We never even upgrade the operating system or any software involved, this computer lives for this test.

Check out the link for the converter test and read what we do, and what we've tested so far. If you need help in choosing your next converter, that test delivers the truth regardless of price range and sales hype.

We pride ourselves on real info here at ZenPro Audio, and this test hits the bullseye for info!

Edit: We added this recent video to explain our methods.
