That's right, the P501 is a channel strip with preamp, DI or line level input, and a full compressor / limiter section taken from the Model P1. The P1 is famous for its clean and detailed sound, but the amount of dynamics control it exhibits is excellent...with virtually no artifacts. It's one of those "gotta try real hard to mess it up" units, great for tracking voice and instruments, it delivers a "finished" sound without obvious pinching of the sound.
