SABRA-SOM SSM1 Description
SSM1 Universal Shockmount
It's versatility in mounting methods and adjustments makes the SSM-1 compatible
with almost all shapes, sizes and types of microphone on the market, up to
2" in diameter.
To correctly mount a microphone, simply weave it through the parallel,
high-quality, braid-covered elastic bands of each ring, two by two.
The central articulated support can be adjusted and refixed along a hexagonal
rod to compensate for any imbalance in the set-up's center of gravity. For
heavier mics, insert the body of the mic into the bands without weaving, to
retain the elasticity.
Then, if necessary, add an additional ring to the bar, by the bottom part of
the mic, and weave it around the XLR connector, thus placing the weight of the
mic on 3 rings at once.

The SSM1 is a nice simple device
that works wonders for sure on small diaphragm mics in particular. It consists
of two rings, each having elastic bands running across them, and a mic stand
mount with a short shaft attached that allows you to space the two rings out
for maximum grip of the mic no matter the length.
The SSM1 does great for medium to
lightweight mics and is very easy to setup. You simply start the mic through
one of the rings and then wrap two opposing elastic bands around it, then the
other two around the end. Push it through and repeat in the next ring, done. It
will hold virtually all pencil mics in any position, it can be helpful with
heavier mics but maybe not in a horizontal position.
Conclusion: One of the nicer and
more elegant shock systems for mics, I own and use them and highly recommend them.
