Peluso Microphone Lab 22 47 SE Description
MIX Review of the 2247 SE
The Peluso 22 47 SE is a large diaphragm condenser microphone styled after the legendary "Neumann U-47". To achieve the distinctive "47" sound we have found the 6SJ7 American style steel tube provides the same sonic quality as the VF14. With nearly identical specifications, the only discernable difference between these two tubes is a 2dB quieter noise floor on the 5693/6SJ7. These tubes are thoroughly tested and fully covered by our 3-year warranty. This American style tube is readily available and allows us to offer the Peluso 22 47 Standard Edition at a very competitive price. Professional engineers enjoy great success with the 22 47 SE for a wide range of applications from male and female vocals, acoustic guitar to tenor sax. There are countless applications for this versatile microphone. Known for its clear sound while capturing the low frequency nuances of the original U-47 with smooth mid range and balanced high end. Engineers will be proud to have a hand built microphone with the sound of a genuine U-47.
The 22 47 SE is paired with the Peluso MX-56 power supply. The dual sided capsule in the 22 47 SE enable the power supply to feature 9 polar patterns in an array from omni-directional to cardioid to figure eight. The 22 47 SE features our heavy-duty 8-pin screw on cable connector. The large diameter pins in the screw on connector give a tight and secure cable connection designed to perform for a lifetime of use.
Acoustically matched pairs available upon special request.
Microphone kit comes as a complete system including: 22 47 SE Microphone in a Wood Box, Power Supply, New-style 8-Pin Screw on Cable Assembly, and a Shock Mount all packed in a Flight Case.

Comparing the 22 47, 22 47 LE and 22 47 SE:
All of the microphones in our 22 47 line are styled after the vintage Neumann U-47. This legendary microphone, manufactured in the 1950s and 60s, was revered for its clear sound, smooth and warm mid range, balanced high end and great body. The U-47 was used extensively during the recordings of the Beatles music and has continued to be used in countless well-known recordings since. Neumann discontinued production of this model when Telefunken ceased production of its key component, the metal VF 14 tube. Our 22 47 LE model is supplied with a German vintage tube from this era. We have worked for years to acquire a supply of these rare tubes. We are proud to offer a microphone with this true vintage tube. With our 22 47 SE model we are able to offer the same sonic quality with an American style metal tube. These tubes are available to us in larger quantities. This allows us to provide the sonic qualities of a "47" microphone with a lower price. The only discernible difference in sound between these two models is a 2 dB quieter noise floor on the SE model. The Peluso 22 47 model is based on a modification to the original U-47 for German Radio broadcast standards in the 1970s incorporating a glass triode tube. Carefully selected components, thorough testing, and attention to detail all come together making these some of our most popular microphones.
"What a stunning microphone, the build quality is amazing. You've
gotta hear it to believe it!"

Peluso 2247SE Review /
See All ZenPro Audio Reviews Here: Review Page
John Peluso’s U47 clone excels at
many things, first of all not sounding like all the other clones! The LE &
SE models have a decidedly more natural and present top end vs what we’re all
used to in the land of the 47 clone: dark top end response. When I asked John
about this, he explained that he was going for the sound of a NEW 47 rather
than what many of the mics sound like now, after having aged for many decades
and in who knows what condition. The 2247LE is a 9 pattern large diaphragm tube
condenser mic. The 2247LE ships with shock mount, briefcase style case, 7 pin
cable and a stock power supply. The LE model utilizes a steel VF-14 Telefunken
style tube. The SE model uses a more readily available 5693 tube and has a
slightly better noise floor, and very similar performance at a slightly lower
price.
I very much consider the 2247LE /
2247SE a workhorse mic that can get lots of stuff done in a classy manner
without adding too much of its own character. The low end response is strong,
and low-mid and midrange is well represented as well. Again, the top end
response is more along the lines of natural, not adding or taking away from the
original source and not being bright or dark. Smooth with a forward presence is
the best way to put it. The midrange has an easy sound about it that is
pleasant also. Voice, acoustic instruments and amps and drums are delivered
with punch too. This is one of the lesser sibilant mics for vocal recordings,
and does intimate close work well.
Conclusion: Big and smooth and no
obvious bumps in the response curve all add up to make the 2247LE / 2247SE
shine as a workhorse “do all” mic. I like the fact that it’s not a dark
offering. I would consider this mic as a multi pattern addition to any
collection.
