KEL Audio HM-2D Large Diaphragm Supercardioid Microphone Description

Stereo pairs are $349, add 2 to cart and save.

Finally ... An affordable condenser mic with real mojo!

The HM-2d is a unique large diaphragm condenser mic voiced to sound big and beefy -- like a quality dynamic mic.

Use the HM-2d on electric guitar amps, outside of kick drums, on horns, harmonica, high-strung instruments, and vocals. Basically put it up whenever you want a smooth old-school vibe instead of the hash and grit of low priced tube mics, or the mud of some of the inexpensive off-shore ribbon mics flooding the market, recently.

Also, because the HM-2d is a transformerless condenser mic, it's far less susceptible to the loading effects that can drastically change the sound of dynamic mics from one pre-amp to the next. It's got a round top end with a fast bottom for a sound that's clear yet tight. The frequency response varies only about 2 dB between 70 Hz and 12 kHz.

The mic ships in a foam-lined box and comes with a quality shock mount and full 1-year unconditional warranty.

Kel Audio HM-2D.. Awesome

Called Warren here at Zen and within seconds of explaining the kind of mic I needed, he mentioned this mic. Great all purpose, can work in both dynamic 'type' situations such as close-voice like an Sm7 and on kick drum, yet can also excel in room micing and all sorts of acoustic instruments. Put this to the test today, and it shined on vocals and was first choice, next to other nice mid-priced ribbons/condensers. Super thick and clear without any, for lack of better term, CRAP, building up in any particular frequency range. Was a little sibilant on female vocals but I believe that could have been remedied by better mic technique on the vocalists part. This mic really gives you exactly what you put into it, plus a little UMPH. On a drum room mic it left us saying "oh, well I guess we don't need close mics today!". Great sounding mic that catches attention.
