Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus Digital to Analog Converter Description
The DacMagic Plus makes an excellent studio monitor volume controller if you are not switching between speaker pairs, and has one of the finest resolution volume pots we've ever heard. The digitally controlled yet analog pot has flawless left to right tracking at any volume level, and does not get in the way like many inexpensive pots do! Its clean and detailed sound will outperform low and mid-priced DAW interface D/A converters, and the DacMagic Plus can run as a USB device on your MAC or PC or accepts SPDIF RCA or TOSLINK up to 192k 24 bit. In fact, no matter what sampling rate you send it, it internally upsamples to 384k using their ATF2 Adapted Time Filtering circuit. It outputs balanced XLR so you can directly feed your active studio monitors for real and natural sounding mixes.
ATF2™ upsampling explained...
Adapted Time Filtering (ATF) asynchronous upsampling technology might sound complicated but the benefits are instantly audible. Essentially it converts 16-24 bit audio to 24 bit/384kHz so you hear way more from compressed music. Meanwhile a 32-bit Digital Signal Processor (DSP) eradicates jitter – an insidious side effect of playing back music from hard-disk devices like PCs and laptops.
So, however your digital music collection is stored, the difference in audible quality is incredible!
