I’ve never had an issue plugging the Snowball into any USB port, it just shows up and starts working. Use with virtually all styles of software you may have, it’s the perfect Podcast mic or great for amateur voice work or working on the road with a laptop. The Snowball now ships with the stand and a USB cable. I know a major label act that many of their record’s overdubs were done with a Snowball into a laptop DAW while on the road in hotel rooms, if it’s good enough for a major label release it’s likely good enough for the rest of us. The omni pattern is nice to have if you want to capture the room. Overall I’d stick with cardioid pattern and go to work. For a scratch pad device for singer songwriters working on a computer who don’t want setup time, don’t worry the Snowball can handle it.

Conclusion: It performs better than you may think, it’s a detailed mic with an all purpose kind of sound that will work in a pinch on anything.
