The ATTY…wow! This takes me back, as before I ever even was an A Designs dealer I won an ATTY in a contest held by my good friend Steven Langer over at www.mojopie.com. I won it by funking up a Beethoven tune! Anyhow, I soon discovered that the ATTY was a cool little box that could solve some typical home studio needs. The original idea was to attenuate the outputs of devices that put out very hot signal (certain preamps etc), but with the mute switch and simple pot on board it quickly became obvious that as an entry level monitor controller the ATTY was more than acceptable. The original models didn’t track very well from left to right as the pot traveled, but later revisions have tightened things up nicely. Overall the sound of the ATTY doesn’t seem to get in the way much at all. I used the ATTY2’D multi channel ATTY for a while as a monitor controller, until I got sick of having to mute one pair to un-mute the other (wasn’t designed for switching, I was trying to use it that way…).

Conclusion: A useful gadget for hot devices, or a monitor controller in a pinch. For surround monitoring, the ATTY2’D is a good reach as well.
